SHELL problems with building BIND on IRIX

List of symptoms

• Getting ``Badly placed ()'s.'' message, see csh, tcsh info below.
• Getting a message something like ``Making /somewhere/bind-8.1.1/src/.systype sh[5]: port//somewhere/bind-8.1.1/src/port^Jirix/Makefile.set: cannot open: No such file or directory'' message, see CDPATH info below.

Details on these problems follow

• If you are using IRIX 6.4 (or later) and ksh, then you need to make sure that the ksh 'CDPATH' environment variable is not set (or is set to a null value) before running make (try running as 'make CDPATH=""')
• If you are using a non bourne-shell compatible shell such as csh or tcsh, then you need to run make with the SHELL variable set to /bin/sh. (try running as 'make SHELL=/bin/sh')
